New tree, Decorating, No Presents & the Tree Falls Down.

I'm a little late getting this post up. This should have been posted 2 weeks ago, but I was ill.

NEW TREE: We bought a new (fake) tree this year. The one we had was just too big for our living room. I wanted one of these:

But no one else liked it. In fact, they were totally wierded out about it. Think about it. You can actually SEE the ornaments, as they would hang down and be visible. There would be room under it to stack big and many presents. Odd looking, it would certainly be a conversation piece.

The History of the Upside-Down Fir Tree:
According to the Christmas Archives, "In the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, went to Germany to teach the Word of God. He did many good works there, and spent much time in Thuringia, an area which was to become the cradle of the Christmas Decoration Industry. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The converted people began to revere the Fir tree as God's Tree, as they had previously revered the Oak. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmastime in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity."

Since I was majorly and completely outvoted, we ended up with this tree: It's only 3 feet across the widest part, so it's narrow and tall. I really like it, but it's taken some getting used to after having a big, full tree for years. Since I was sick on the couch (pneumonia), I didn't actually participate in the decorating, but snapped a few pics.

DECORATING:

Here's sneaky Diesel, sitting his butt on the couch,
looking up at DH to see if he was paying attention.

He wasn't. Here's Diesel, making his move to steal another bow from the tree.

He's caught in the act!

DH rescues the bow from certain destruction

Maggie is such a good pup, she just lays and watches

Sophia's excited to put the topper on the tree (with Daddy's help of course!)

Perfect!

NO PRESENTS: So, we didn't put the best ornaments on the tree, not sure what the pups would do. Certainly no breakables. We always put all the presents under the tree as soon as they're wrapped, so the kids can shake and squeeze till their hearts are content. Not this year, I suspect the pups would eat the present, or at least shred them. I assure you they WILL get presents. ;)

THE TREE FALLS: Yesterday the pups were fighting and knocked the whole tree over.

Yeah.

They're getting coal in their stockings.

oh my!

I have to say the upside down tree didn't really do it for me either;)
I would feel like I needed to fix it probably.

I like the narrow trees.
OH that Diesel is a character! Its a good thing he is loved.

I hope you feel better through the holidays now and no more sickness.

We have our tree in a room that is shut away from the cats and dog. That has been the mandatory thing at my house forever. Cute pics though. Sneeky diesel.

Diesel is an absolute hoot! I too would be afraid he'd eat the gifts. I am glad the rest of the Rolfe's won over the upside down tree... it looks like something from a Dr. Suess book!

Hmmm...that is a very interesting tree and yes you are right it would be an awesome conversation piece!

I love her in the zebra top! Lottie and Emma had a top like that last year and I should have bought the next size for this year!!

You're very last sentence had me cracking UP. Then I thought- uh oh, no, don't do coal. Can you imagine the mess they'd make with it??!

Those naughty puppies! I don't think I've heard of that much trouble from a toddler trying to get at things on the tree! Although, I did once hear of a woman who put her tree inside a playpen and then decorated it to keep the toddler away from her glass ornaments! Smart lady! They are so pretty until they break :)!
