Braids or are they PIGTAILS?

I put braids in Sophia's hair for the first time the other day.

SURVEY: Are they called pigtails? I always thought braids were called 'pigtails', but have talked to many people that say 2 ponytails were called 'pigtails'. I disagree. This how I see it:

1 ponytail (hair gathered in an elastic holder) = ponytail
2 (or more) of above = ponytails (just plural of ponytail!)
Hair split into sections and braided = pigtail or if more than one, pigtails.

Please comment, and let me know what you think! What is a PIGTAIL?

I have several friends who call two ponies, piggies. I was always brought up with your thinking, but I just go along with however anyone calls it :)

According to Webster's Collegiate Dictionary "A tight braid of hair" Mom

First off.... I LOVE HER HAIR! I want to learn how to do that to Hannah's hair when it is long enough.
Pony Tail- one in the back
Pig Tails- two on the sides
Braids- just like her hair is braided
that is what I think and have always heard but it is fun to hear what everyone else thinks.

OK, I call them braids, which is what I did to Spicy Girl's hair today. Pigtails and Ponytails are kinda the same thing to me; and sometimes I call them puppy dog ears, go figure. I think pigtails are a short version of ponytails, but one ponytail is definately in the back. Confused? I am. LOL.

Hmm, I always considered one in the back a ponytail, two on the side, pigtails, and any number of braids, just 'braids.' Love the do!

My question is.... How did you get her to sit still long enough to make those braids? I can barely get Avery to sit still long enough for a barrette.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I was taught the same as you, but I guess it isn't that big of a deal. Either way, she's cute!

I think they are braids. Pony's are just to the side. :) But you can call them whatever you want.

in chinese, we call it "马尾辫", which means ponytail

We would actually call these "French braids." French braids are different than regular braids in that you weave in the hair as you go along as opposed to regular braids where you pull the hair into a pigtail and then braid. Lovely job!

For us, a ponytail is one in the back and pigtails are two on either side.

a braid is a pigtail... so 2 braids are pigtails... they are squiggly like pigs tails...

a ponytail looks like a pony's tail... long and gathered at the base... more than one is just plural...

I had to look it up in the dictionary to prove this to my husband! LOL

he's from the north... he doesn't know the proper southern terminology! haha!
